Back to School Clothing Drive 2018
September 2018
Written by Eda Yu
Last Labor Day weekend, as students and parents got ready for the back to school frenzy that September brings, the FLYGURLZCLUB put on its very first donation drive at Oakland’s E14 Gallery — welcoming young women from all around the Bay Area.
Friday night, an all-female lineup of DJs scored the night as women stopped by the Old Oakland gallery space to have a drink, enjoy the music, and drop off clothing and accessories for donation. In the fun, hectic energy, volunteers sorted through clothing to merchandise to students as the party went on — and the next day, it really showed.
Students from Fremont High School, United for Success, and Claremont High School stopped by Saturday to browse racks of colorful clothing, take selfies in front of fun decorations, and even get their faces bejeweled or nail art done. Local stylists and influencers even helped style girls to help them feel confident in their outfits, yet another touch to encourage self-love at the thoughtful donation drive.
Currently, FLYGURLZCLUB is still repackaging donations as gifted tote bags to give to high school students who were unable to make it to the event. If you’d like to contribute in any way, learn how to get involved.
Thank you to our sponsors who made our first event possible!
