BACK TO SCHOOL

CLOTHING DRIVE

A creative collective empowering the next generation of gurlz.

FLYGURLZCLUB’s annual Back-to-School Clothing Drive is more than a donation eventβ€”it’s a celebration of individuality and girlhood. Each summer, we transform a local space into a welcoming, boutique-style experience where high school girls can shop racks of gently worn and new clothing with our stylists & Glam Squadβ€”all for free.

It’s about more than just outfits. It’s about helping girls step into the school year feeling seen, confident, and empowered. Our amazing team of volunteers and community partners come together to create an uplifting, judgment-free, and safe space for girls to express themselves and explore different styles.

Powered by grassroots support, this unique and impactful celebration of self- expression transforms the lives of young girls with dignity, self-love, and confidence.

Students are nominated by school administration by private invitation only. We currently serve students in the Oakland Unified School District for our annual Student Shop Day.

We’re open for an additional week after Student Shop Day and allow students from all school districts across the Bay Area to shop free. We close out with our Fly Gurl Market post-event where surplus donations are sold to the public.

How it works

Drop down to learn how our amazing team of volunteers make the magic happen:

  • Our clothing drive happens for 2-3 weeks for you to make your donations.. We welcome donations of all sizes in good condition that are high school appropriate. Within this time, our team is setting up sorting stations, clothing racks, and categories.

With your clothing donations, we’re able to offer various styles and size for our girls to shop and choose from!

Collection dates & location to be announced.

More details of what we do and do not accept below.

  • In order to provide a quality experience for our participating students, we sort through each and every piece to ensure it’s good condition and fit for our teens.

By the time we’re nearing the end of the clothing drive, we’re already building out our pop up shop from the ground up.

Our stylists curate the clothing by size, category, and collections while our team of visual merchandisers create the floor plan and shop flow. This is an extensive phase of our process but is what allows us to create the ultimate shopping experience!

We need a ton of hands on deck for set up - To volunteer and get involved, please sign up here!

  • Our Student Shop Day is a one day and 4 hour event. Registered students are welcomed by our crew with tote bags to fill up with as much as they can!

Students fill out a Style Card where they mark their sizes, check off what styles the like, and some they want to try! Our stylists pair up with them to shop and suggest outfit ideas, and styling advice.

Our Glam Squad provides services from hair cuts and styles, nails, and make up through the duration of our event. We also have DIY workshops to upcycle or mend pieces they found shopping.

This year we are teaming up with Community Fits, a non-profit to teaching girls how to sew.

  • Closing out Student Shop Week, we host a marketplace post-event open to the public to purchase surplus donations that help fund future initiatives.

Vendors are invited to our marketplace to sell their goods. We focus and highlight BIPOC and LGBTQ+ local artisans and designers in our community!

To become a vendor, please contact us!

β€œI couldn’t afford to go back to school shopping for both girls this year so when my oldest high schooler came home and told me about todays event, she begged me to sign both her and her sister up. You all have NO idea how much this meant to not only myself but to my two daughters!! They felt so comfortable and without any judgement were able to pick out new school clothing for themselves. You all have made such a difference in my daughters school year and I will be forever thankful for all of you who made this possible! Thank you a million times over.β€œ

β€œOne of the many reasons that I love FGC is that we are able to provide unique and creative open space environments for younger generations to connect and share their stories. On top of that, many of the fellow volunteers are passionate, smart, and beautifully spoken ladies. I am super proud to be a part of FLYGURLZCLUB and will continue to support. β€œ
